Re: OYE on DIY

ill answer 2 . .. J Sloud and Crash ..

We dont have to drive a zillion miles like you guys, we only got a 21x7
mile island .... BUT

Lots of ghettos ...

But its weird, you can find people in the ghettos can ocassionally
spend more or same as the person in the $2 million home, actually the
$2 million homes are normally cheap anyway. They seem to have to be in
the $10 mill range and/or have major money elsewhere, otherwise they
tend to waste our time.

Now, im mainly talking right now from a CCTV prospective, not so much
alarms, though I still do that for my CCTV clients. Prices for CCTV can
be much more than an alarm. We pay 45% duty on Electronics so our local
price is much more than what you guys sell it for in the US. That alone
hurts us, when I pull up to a quote and quote someone, drive through
hours of traffic in this little island, quote the job, for the client
to only go online and find the same product for 45% less!

Its tough to say, as we are in 2 different worlds here. But if I left
it up to telephone screening, I would not go to any quotes :-) English
is supposed to be our main language here, but ... you would think
otherwise if you talked to some people here...course the worse waste of
time I experienced was while quoting alarms for a local monitoring
company for more than 5 years .. though we got a lot of jobs at that
time ..

But now, as a sole part of a company right now, driving to and from
wasted quotes just is costing me too much money in gas ... $4 a gallon
to be exact. I have to start charging, at least for the "unqualified"
calls .. :-)

Luckily down here there are alot of people messing up jobs, with
little or no knowledge in the industry, so this can help in the
charging process at least for business type jobs. The majority of jobs
I have been called to lately were local and (more so) foriegn
installers that did the job but didnt do it properly and the client
called me to clean it up!

When i say foriegn, these are guys that come down here with no US or
bahamian biz licence, probably cant even work in the US in the low
voltage industry, coke heads if you want me to point fingers (but yall
wont know who I am meaning anyway as they dont even have a computer so
they dont come on here) ....but they have some great BS and the
bahamians buy it as they somehow think foreignors can do better work
..little do they know when that person leaves and never comes back,
thats when they call me ...Yah know, id be better off denouncing my
bahamian citizenship, becoming a Cuban, then "yaughting" it over to
Miami!!
