Your right Jim but you need class room theory along with field experince to
make sure your doing the job right.
aprox 20 % class to 80% in field is what most trades these days try to
follow.
How many installers learned on the job the wrong way and are doing it the
wrong way not knowing they are dong so. Of course i have seen instructors
who have absolutely no idea what there doing either to. Its the old catch
22. But even with all my experince i still have class room and certificates
to back up what i say and do , you have to to be credible.
There is postively nothing wrong with 100% in the field learning as long as
it is being done so correctly.
and individuals should document it should it ever be called into question.
