I don't know a bean about CE 5 and I certainly don't have the skill
set to sort out an implementation or the conversion of existing apps.
But if it does what it says then a very small platform could be the
controller for a xpl network and could be almost packaged as a device.
This would be a great step forward for xpl.
Being able to implement all windows based xpl apps on a platform like
this would be incredibly useful.

Windows CE 5 may be a better platform for this purpose - for one
thing,
it supports instant boot from CF, rather than "cf as a hard
drive"
emulation. Secondly, and more importantly, it's not virii accesible
for
the most part - there are also digital app signing mechanisms which
allow execution to be heavily restricted.
Oh, and the clincher? It runs .Net Compact framework, so minimal
conversion is needed for existing apps.
I downoaded the eval kit for CE5 on x86 hardware, but couldn't get a
mobo description for the VIA EPIA Mobos built - that would be a major
step forward if we could get it going.
Ian.

It does say on their site that it doesn't include support for the full
win32 api on the boot cds to save space. If you're planning for this
PC
to have general purpose use (rather than as a media streamer), that
may
be an issue.
