Have you enabled xPL support within the SlimServer web interface?
(It used to be under Server Settings -> Advanced -> Network, but that
was in the days of SlimServer v5.1 - it may have moved since then)

You can in theory stream directly to the SqueezeBox, but you would need
to write your own software to talk directly to the SqueezeBox hardware.
The SqueezeBox relies entirely on the server software (SlimServer) for
all the display updates and streaming etc.

Yes - if you have more than one SqueezeBox, they can all play different
streams at the same time.
