Absolutely!

That's actually as intended - if there's any confusion about not
incrementing the hop count, then really.. That's a confusion of language
not
of intent.

Personally - don't bother! As you say, this is a simple protection against
runaway broadcast storms - there really isn't a good reason to turn it off.
