X10 is just painfully slow, I am afraid.  I did some timings with the
CM11 computer interface I have here.
If you send an X10 command from the pc, then what happens is that
first the address(es) are sent and then the function (ON, OFF, ...) to
apply to them.  The CM11 takes 550 msecs just to acknowledge the
receipt of an address!

Typically switching on a lamp goes with a delay of just under 1 sec.
Add 0.5 secs per device if you are sending the same command to
multiple devices at once.

You cannot tweak much I am afraid...
