OK, something else for you to try.

Can you open up the xPL monitor (it's in xPLHal Manager on the Tools
menu).

Then, when you right-click on an X10 device and select either Switch On
or Switch Off, can you let us know what xPL messages you see in the
monitor.

You should see a xpl-cmnd from xPLHal to your CM12, and then you should
see an xpl-trig coming back from the CM12 to confirm the command.

If you don't see the trigger message coming back, that explains why the
status is always remaining as unknown.

Also, which xPL CM12 app are you using?
(assuming you're using a CM12)
