Are you sure you're not using the built-in xPLHal hub?
The only way I can imagine this pause happening is if you use the
built-in xPLHal hub.

The reason is that I think the xPLHal hub runs in the main xPLHal
thread, so every minute when xPLHal is doing stuff, that thread may be
being blocked sufficiently to stop the hub from doing it's job.

However, it shouldn't take 10-12 seconds to check events etc. every
minute!

More investigation required here I think!

The next version of xPLHal (I'm not sure of a timescale for release yet
- any ideas Tony?) includes the xpllib v3 hub, which runs in it's own
thread, so shouldn't be affected by anything that xPLHal is doing.
