Polling protocols - downside





One difficulty I foresee with the RS-485 polling protocol is the
response time to human action.
Assume your light switch is on node 1 and the output via a SSR is on
node 2.
The time the xPL determinator/script(xPLHAL) gets the sensor message
could easily be in the 2-3 second range, there's then a short
processing delay before the 485 master gets the control message to
send to node 2. Depending on whether it 'round robins' or 'pre-empts'
there could be a further delay.
Most users would find that kind of delay unacceptable.

For other uses, say heating control or security, the delay isn't a
problem.
