Hi Mark...
The main reason I chose the exstreamer was it would be located in node0
where the amps are and ceiling speakers terminated, so didn't need the
display, generally there would be a pc or ipaq of sorts around to control
it....

Neil,
I've used "the big four" MP3 players extensively, and my personal
take is:
- First choice: Squeezebox
For: Display (usable for all kinds of stuff), Digital Out, Wireless
Against: Price
- Second choice: SliMP3
For: Display (ditto)
Against: Price
- Third choice: Rio/DDAR
For: Local manual control
Against: No longer available new, but do come up second-hand
- Fourth: Exstreamer
For: Not much anymore, IMHO
Against: No local control
The reason that I say "not much anymore" for the Exstreamer is
that
historically it was better than the Rios for control by web / external
apps. The work that Tony's done on xPLRioNet means that, from my point
of view, all the advantages it used to have over the Rio have been eroded.
The real reason I have lots of Rios is that once I'd got a few, I sort
of ended up buying more for other rooms, and there were big advantages
to having all the same :-)
M.
