tried that one still get the error

data source name not found and no default driver specified

I have also tried the ip address, (local) and the server name......

Hi Neil,

Not sure if it will make a difference, but you could try:

Provider=sqloledb;Data Source=localhost;Initial Catalog=xQL;User
Id=xql;Password=xql

I would have thought xQL should log some errors somewhere if it can't
connect to the database, or something goes wrong? Perhaps Tony can
clarify.
