Hi Frank,
It's dead easy...
Can you tell me how/where your cable modem is connected...?
Depending on this you may need to just activate the firewall on 1 machine.
To see how the firewall is switched on:
Bring up the "Network Connections" dialog...
Right-click on the connection that coressponds to your LAN (local area
network)
and select "Properties"...
Selected the "Advanced" tab...
There you should see a group box entitled "Internet Connection
Firewall" -
enabling it is as easy as checking the corresponding check box...
This is as far as my knowledge goes - it should be enough to protect you
from
the outside world but I'm not sure how you'd go about opening ports so that
you
could connect to devices (HV etc.) from outside if you wanted to.
As I say, which PCs you have to enable the firewall on depend upon how your
modem is setup...
(I remember a while ago you were using Internet Connection Sharing - are
you
still using this or have you put in a router...?)
Many thanks,
Andy.

I've also heard good things about
Kerio Personal Firewall (<a href="http://www.kerio.co.uk/kpf_home.html">http://www.kerio.co.uk/kpf_home.html</a>)
and was told
that there was a free version available but I can't seem to find it - I'll
ask the guy at work tomorrow and get back to you.
