Sorry, I guess I wasn't very clear. I'm referring to the DNS address
in dhcp.xml I could swear that I set it to the DNS server that I
specified for the rest of the network but that when I opened the xml
file later it was set to the IP address of my router. However, if
the software can't change those settings then I must have done
something wrong.

Thanks, Tony. I appreciate this. It's still not working for me after
a clean reinstall of 3.6c. I will send the info.
