No Devices appearing

I've just installed 1.42 on XP and can't get my slimp3 devices to
appear in xPL Devices Awaiting Configuration.
I've enabled xPL on my slimserver which is running on a RedHat 9 box.
xPL monitor shows no traffic at all on my network. Does it matter the
slimp3, slimserver and XP box are connected via a switch? I guess
not, but let me know if so.
Anyone got any other advice to point me in the right direction?
