Hi Doogie,

Going back to the issue of sending 'on', 80% commands, when pir triggers.
I'm at a loss here.

I don't know of a specific way of getting one of these devices to 80%
without going to 0% or 100% first, and then staying there. Though this does
depend on the unit I guess.

Are you using the pir timeout system built in to xplhal, or scripting the
'off' of the pir? Though both ways are ok, just interested

The way I would do it with mine is as follows (as none of mine support
status reporting), though it does depend on the unit supporting bright from
off to 80%

pir detects movement
Script checks if x10 cache shows device on/off
If off then send bright 80% (note: no 'on' command)
If on then ignore

On pir timeout
Send 'off' to device

As I say it depends on the unit.
When my units are off,
If I send a 50% dim, they come on at 100% and dims to 50%
If I send a 50% bright, they come on at 0% and bright to 50%

If someone starts turning things on/off manually then, without status
reporting, tracking the situation is impossible. But then this is the big
flaw in x10?

Unless a unit supports a specific command to set the brightness, you can't
keep sending dim/bright commands, as the effect you are seeing is what you
would expect.

Units that support predim level's are probably best for what youre trying
to
do, but I've never played with this.

The x10 stuff in xplhal is evolving over time and it's exactly this type of
feedback, Doogie, that will help improve it. Many thanks for raising these
issues.

If anyone has any comments or suggestions please let us know.

Thanks
Tony
