Neat, I doubt I'll get it that small as I know hardly anything about linux
:-(
I'm going to create a new development install using redhat 9,
And then create the smallest I can with the necessary drivers.

I found some small installs on the web, but all with old kernels, and a
kernel upgrade is beyond me at the moment.
I would of stuck with rh7.x but the gcc has problems, and I couldn't get a
newer version to compile :-(

I was almost tempted to go for a dos stb, and write the xpl app's in
assembler, but I want to use some of the linux stuff available on the web.
