I think so.
Given that, by definition, we won't know what messages may appear on a xpl
network at design time, having the capability for messages to be
"processed"
at the node is pretty cool.
It would also provide a method for nodes to make sense of an otherwise
useless message..
Filters at the moment would allow a node to handle messages from a whole
host of senders, however, without a schema match, these devices would be
struggling to make real use of them. With some smart scripting, PC apps
could be setup by a happy hobbyist to act on a whole range of messages,
without worrying about the schemas not matching.
Now, I'm off to find out why my UIRT just died :
Ian.

Subject: [ukha_xpl] Would it make sense...
Question: Would it make sense for pc based xPL applications to each have
their own vbscripting engine built-in?
My thought is that each app _could_ run a 'message received' and 'message
sent' script in response to the app receiving/sending messages (and perhaps
other hooks relevant to the particular app).
The reason being that in some cirumstances it might be nice to be able to
override the contents of messages to allow applications/devices that have
nothing in common to communicate directly (rather than needing a scripting
engine like xplhal), or to do something clever that the original programmer
might not of thought of.
Although there are a couple of generic name/value pairs for OSD/TTS that
can
be appended to ANY schema, this would be much more flexible. And totally
user configurable (if you know vbscript, though javascript could also be
supported possibly).
Any thoughts?
Thanks
Tony
