I am running xPL over rs485.. have a look at

There's some PIC code, and an example circuit.

if you have 485 experience, I'd be delighted to chat, as I am currently
putting together the circuit board for an RS485 hub, providing 12V power
and
RS485 over CAT5 :)

Hello!

I just discovered your webpage while I was looking for a protocol
which i could use for homeautomation plans. i am going to build
intelligent switches, sockets, dimmer, etc. using a pic or avr
prozessor and a RS485 transreceiver. question: are there any plans to
develop such modules? or is someone already using xPL on rs485?
