I have three xap applications that support delivery of the Weather.Report
s=
chema. This schema was extended per a prior message to add fields that
wer=
e not in James's base schema. WeatherAWS is the one I run at 1 minute
upd=
ates to get wind data. Wind data is used for sprinkler controller so
spr=
inklers will not run when the wind is too strong. The other current
condit=
ion info is grabbed at the same time, but not needed for anything at that
r=
ate. WeatherAWS allows selection of three reporting stations to be used
in=
case one is down at the time of the query. WeatherMSNBC runs twice an ho=
ur and its primary purpose is for forecast information. It contains the
fu=
ll Weather.Report schema, but the WeatherAWS sites are usually closer
since=
there are thousands of them so current conditions are not used from the MS=
NBC feed. WeatherXML is similar to WeatherMSNBC. It is a more reliable
si=
te, but it also has some licensing restrictions from Weather.com. Both
Wea=
therMSNBC and WeatherXML update the forecast hourly so running much more
th=
an every 30 minutes does not provide much benefit. All three feeds cover
t=
he entire world.

Subject: [xAP_developer] Weather, and a new xAPplication coming on

With a bit of a following wind, (ha - poor pun) there should be
another xAPplication available soon - a full featured weather program.
The program is widely used by weather enthusiasts all over the
planet, supports loads of different types of weather stations, does
wunderground and web sites updates, and much more. Its not free, but
its very good value (he says as a happy customer)

The author this very day produced a beta that at the push of a button
plonks weather display on the xAP desktop, so I'm hopeful this'll all
work out. yay.

Couple of points.

a) The weather.report schema has a UTC=3D field for the time, and it
displays as time on the xAP desktop. But in UTC... OK in the UK, six
months of the year, but a bit out here in New Zealand....=20=20

b) The settings.txt file for weather is hard coded to expect an
mi4.weather source, I hacked it to be *.weather source, it seems to
work, is that OK, and should that be the default?

And a question - anyone who has weather data running now, how often do
you get updates?
