I am very conscious that we have had no input from Patrick (and Mark) for a
while - please note that these are only my thoughts, in the absence of
others - and Patrick is the guru / chief architect - he may well have very
different views to me !!

Well happy to do that - there are some related things that I have come up
against tonight with James, which I had not appreciated that may make
compound status reports awkward ( a status summary from the 00 UID
containing all I/O) . Some device based controllers may not be easily able
to make use of them.
