RE: Topic 1: Base Level Status Schema

I was just thinking about the types of device that us HA'ers connect
to and control - now obviously the history is really with X10 and hence the
simple model I proposed seems adequate. But then I thought about the serial
port instead of a single I/O port. Do you think we need to support a
character I/O device like a serial port within this ? It potentially sits
on
a UID on a device, indeed with my xAp controller I can send 'characters' to
a UID (well obviously the source address with subaddress) and they shoot
out
the port - likewise incoming characters appear in a xAP message - it forms
a
limited way to control 'any' serial device eg an AV amp by xAP - you just
need a bit of help from a scripting engine. I guess aparallel I/O port
would appear this way too if it wasn't segmented into bits.

And then I got to thinking about how ONOFF is inappropriate here
but the ERROR is useful - maybe we need to add things like OK HALT to mean
handshaking was asserted. Anyone any thoughts here ??
