Whilst it is undoubtedly convenient if you do only ever run one xAP
app that it can run standalone without a hub it just caused so many
frustrations and  support issues when/if  a second app was added that we
now absolutely discourage it, at least as the default behaviour..   An
app that can itself act as a xAP hub is more justifiable , but still
discouraged.   Startup order and quit dependencies should not have to be
considered by the users, it just makes it too prone to failure.

Viewer I agree is the one xAP application that could be forgiven,
even preferred,  if it could automatically adopt a hub role as it is
vital for diagnostics.  I'm not sure why that capability was removed,
maybe there's still a manual config file edit option to re-enable it ... ?
