xAP on Internet & GSM to support telemedicine

I am reporting on research work we have done so far to use xAP in
telemedicine. The aim is to broadcast patient data changes if they occur
instead of time triggered databased updates. The research question is how
much data can be carried in the broadcast. The receiver of the xAP message
will be triggered to retrieve the new data via http or ftp.
The main application is rural areas where internet service is restricted or
on GSM only.

Any comments that would help our research ? Any comments on using xAP over
GSM ? over SMS ?
