Probably not quite what you were after but  I have an app that's been
out for testing for quite a while ( actually since 2006!) and never got
around to a real release. The idea was to use the motion detection
inside the camera and for the camera to send the pictures on an event to
an SMTP server. Most cameras can do this. My app was an SMTP server. It
took the picture, saved it and sent display messages . I had it
triggering Intranet launcher to popup on motion and show the picture on
my desktop.
I can dust it off if it is of use
