using intranet.ocx to build an application

i'm struggling to get my hardware oriented mind to write some code.
i'm trying to write a xAP app to generate xAP messages for another
piece of software. i've got the ocx instantiated using vb.net and the
other software as well. when one of the devices on that other
software changes, i want to send an xapbsc.event, but how can i
formulate the xap message correctly? it's going to send the message
out with a subaddress, but how do i create a unique uid for each
subaddress?

ie:
so i have mystuff.xyz.pcname w/ uid ff123400
when flag abc123 gets set in the other software, i need to send
xapbsc.event from source mystuff.xyz.pcname:abc123

how do i update the uid correctly & automatically since there will be
many other devices' statuses being sent?

thanks!
