Martyn,

I can verify that the new plugin does use the message.display schema.
Is the plugin responding to any xAP message? The problem may be that
it can't hear anything. I had this issue, it turned out to be caused
by some of my apps binding to the network card and thethe slimserver
binding to localhost but on the same port number. This caused teh hub
to stop talking to one of the apps.
Try stopping the slimserver, then in :
\Program Files\SlimServer\server\Plugins\xAP\comm.pm

change
for my $p (49652 .. 65535) {
to be
for my $p (50000 .. 65535) {

then restart slimserver. Wait a minute or so for the hub to sort
things out and try a messages.display

hth
James
