Welcome!

You'll want to check out my Quasar adapter that uses C# and the
xAPFramework.net at:
http://www.edjo.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/edward/xAP/Quasar3145.htm
C# visual studio source included

Always check out the wiki on xAPAutomation.org http://www.xapautomation.org/
to see if there's any schema to re-use before inventing your own. Many
situations can be covered by the BSC schema
http://downloads.xapautomation.org/documents/BSCv13.pdf

James already has an SMS schema implemented
http://www.mi4.biz/modules.php?name=Content
<http://www.mi4.biz/modules.php?name=Content&pa=showpage&pid=13>
&pa=showpage&pid=13
with software that uses sendmytext.co.uk
http://www.mi4.biz/modules.php?name=Downloads
<http://www.mi4.biz/modules.php?name=Downloads&d_op=getit&lid=9>
&d_op=getit&lid=9

All xAP messages are broadcast. (UDP broadcast on ethernet) There's a
'target' parameter in the header that's used to state that the intent of a
message is for a particular endpoint, but all receivers on the network will
recieve the message and can act on it if they elect to (eg, a xAP logger
application will record all messages it sees).

The majority of my xAP work has been in C# with Stuart's xAPFramework.Net
so
happy to help with anything.

Edward

Subject: [xap_automation] New member introduction

Hi

I have just joined the list. Looking forward to some good stuff on here.

I am currently in the process of writing a few applications (c#) to
control my heating at home - my end goals would be as follows:
- Use VIOM to control zones
- PC GUI Client to configure heating (on/off times etc)
- SMS Control / status (using www.bulksms.co.uk)
- Yahoo IM control
- Using the Quasar RS232 temperature module to input temperature info
into the system

I have spent the last few evenings writing test code to communicate
with my RS232 devices, and when I was trying to decide what way my
modules should communicate I stumbled on XAP.

>From what I can see XAP seems to do everything I need (and more). I do
find it quite a lot to get my head around.

I am interested in the "Schema" - are there any nice simple
examples
of using Schema out there? I think I may need some new schema too
(such as Instant Messaging)

Also, I don't understand the nature of the message transmissions - is
the receiver set anywhere, or is it just broadcast?

I intend to make all my code freely available, so if I can help
anyone, that's great.

Looking forward to getting stuck in :)

Simon
