After a total re-write, News 3 is here!
Now totally web based, with improved podcast support, a much better gui,
alerts sent on any story change, rss proxy, no more text file editing
and more... Also integrates in to the xAP Intranet system.

Full feature list:
Monitors RSS and RDF news feeds, upto 254 of them
Sends a definable amount of stories for each feed over xAP
Sends display messages if any story changes
Web based frontend
Configurable frontpage, which show your 9 favorite feeds
All config done via the web, no more text files
xAP Intranet enabled to allow easy links to other intranet apps
Will link to the intranet launcher to reduce the number of tray icons
If any feed contains podcast information those podcasts will be queued
and downloaded at a set time overnight
After download, that nights podcasts will be copied to a user definable
place, such as an mp3 player
A playlist will be created for the nights podcasts
Web based archive of all downloaded podcasts is available.
Will download icons and pictures related to news feeds to enhance the
interface
Will proxy all available feeds which help avoid bans based on ip for too
frequent downloads, slashdot is a good example here.

While this new news cover most of the features of news 2, currently run
as an NT service is unavailable. The next release will also include a
directory of available feeds to make it even easier to setup. Please let
me know of any other features you would like added.
If you do use the current news, then this news uses all the same schema
so should work as a direct swap. It will also import your old settings
file. Simply install the new news, and copy over the news.txt from your
existing news2 folder. On startup news3 will import and reformat the
file, ready for use.

Download as usual from mi4.biz

Enjoy

James
