How about adding some new, optional, stuff to the xAP-OSD.Display
class of message, specifically to the Display.SliMP3 block:

Display.SliMP3
{
Line1="Text to display"
--- mandatory
Line2="Text to display"
--- mandatory
Duration="Duration to display in seconds"
--- mandatory

Align1=[Left  Centre  Right]
--- optional (Left aligntment is assumed if not present)
Align2=[Left  Centre  Right]
--- optional (Left aligntment is assumed if not present)

Brightness=[Default  Dim  Bright  Brighter  Brightest]
--- optional
Size=[Default  Double  Single]
--- optional
}

That overrides any display setting on the Slim. A nice extension to
this might be to configure the SlimServer Connector for OSD messages,
whilst leaving the normal Slim display mode alone. Perhaps:

Class=SliMP3.Display

Display.Defaults
{
Align1=[Left  Centre  Right]
--- optional
Align2=[Left  Centre  Right]
--- optional
Brightness=[Default  Dim  Bright  Brighter  Brightest]
--- optional
Size=[Default  Double  Single]
--- optional
}

That way you've got the normal Slim display mode as the basic default,
but you can customise the SlimServer Connector for some enhanced OSD
options such as those you described.

And where you have a more sophisticated bit of logic in some
controller application of some kind, you can actually adjust
individual messages independently of these 'global' configuration
settings via the message options above.

What say ye?
