The only thing that stands out in your screenshot is the fact that
your Slim is named "living room" ie with a space character. But I
can't figure out why the GUI and console versions would be fine and
not the Windows Service!

That's what happens for me too. There's nothing coming out of the
SlimConnector until the query message arrives, and a response is sent.
So Viewer isn't receiving any information from which it can visualise
the xAP network ie the subaddresses representing the Slims themselves.
It does exactly the same for me too.

I'll give it a go with a space character, but tomorrow. Game over for
tonight! Very puzzling though,
