Just to close the circle...

I found a program by those lovely people at "DiskInternals.com"
who used to=
do some nice handy disc cleanup and defragmentation tools (not the stupid =
automatic tuneup things) called "Diskinternals Linux Reader" that
reads an =
EXT2/3/4 drive under windows and gives *READ ONLY* access to it (within
the=
ir application) for rescuing data.

Worked like a charm!
