Thanks to those who replied to my Wireless Gateway question and I will
inwa=
rdly=20
digest the information.
To clarify things I was asking about a 4g connection via a cellular
phone=20
provider.

Regards

Tracey

It depends on what you mean by wireless. Are you meaning a 4g connection
vi=
a a=20
cellular phone provider, or wireless broadband connection supplied by a
thi=
rd=20
party. The later usually being a series of dishes and relays bouncing
the=20
signal over to hard to reach places but ultimately going out via a hard
lin=
e.=20

We have had both. We originally had a 4g router that allowed us to have a
s=
im=20
card in it, and use the cellular network for broadband. We used EE as they
=
had=20
a local tower. This was before any other type of broadband was available.
I=
t=20
worked but had many pitfalls. We found the 4g connection very unreliable
wi=
th=20
frequent drop outs. Probably not an issue for a town hall, but VOIP and
FPS=
=20
gaming were practically impossible due to latency. You=E2=80=99ll also
find=
your router=20
will likely be double nat=E2=80=99d. Once again likely not an issue for a
t=
own hall,=20
but it=E2=80=99ll prevent you having any incoming service. Say for example
=
if you setup=20
a IP camera in the hall and you want to check it at home. It won=E2=80=99t
=
work.=20

At 15gb a month, you=E2=80=99ll only need a couple of people to download a
=
big update=20
to their laptop/phone etc and you=E2=80=99ll blow your monthly allowance.
I=
live in a=20
household of 3 and we go through 30gb a month, and that=E2=80=99s without
a=
ny movie=20
streaming/downloading. Most of that is down to windows updates, and=20
iphone/android updates. If your talking about using 4g, I believe upload
an=
d=20
download are counted towards usage, not just download.=20

Wireless broadband provided by a third company is a slightly different
stor=
y.=20
VoIP is still a problem. You'll also likely be double nat'd. Speeds were
sl=
ower=20
but more reliable. (10mbs for our wireless vs 22mbs+ on 4g). The bonus for
=
us=20
was that it was unlimited. You'll find your at the mercy of all the other
r=
elay stations. If one has a power cut or equipment issue, the whole
downstr=
eam net fails. Once again, might not be an issue for a town hall.=20

So, really it depends on what tech your talking about. I guess if your
sure=
of your numbers, 15gb/m might not be too bad for you, but certainly seems =
low to me for a place offering free wifi.=20

Cheers

Marc
