Thanks for the replies guys!

I did some digging and found out that my access points DID have much newer
firmware available (can't see it until you upgrade the controller!)
So I upgraded the control software (which runs on a VM) which resulted in
me making a new VM (a bucket of fail there) and starting again :)

Sooo new controller and new firmware and I am "fast roaming" in
style :)
