wireless phone extenders

Does anyone have any experience of these, or recommendations for?
I have a requirement to connect a panel in my hallway for a burglar alarm
to our telephone line, but the master socket is right the other end of the
house in the living room. I'd really rather not have to drill through walls
and run ugly long cables if I can get away with it.
Will they work happily alongside homeplugs? I have a few of those dotted
around.
