Hi Noel,
I have setup 4 Ubiquiti systems now and as 3 of these were going into
industrial plants, I went on the training to certify which isn't necessary
for a basic system just useful for when you need to push the technical
envelope. Their forum is very active and helpful.
Just done a quick test with the controller where I'm working now, You can
have upto 4 separate SSID's on each AP. I currently spec the AC-Lite access
points for new kit as they do all I want.
I setup a new SSID for a network on a time basis. At 12 midday it shutdown
as asked for, but kept the main network SSID running fine. I had connected
one to my phone and the other to the ipad and one lost connectivity and the
other carried on fine.
You'll need to run the controller software on a preferably always on
computer, I normally spec a separate controller - even with the AP's that I
use at home!. I notice that Linitx have a RasberyPi based controller now.
I'd presume that this is as good as the PC engine APU based ones I've used
in the past. The AP's look after the switching of the timed network locally
to themselves - they just need access to a network time server (they look
by default at - 0.ubnt.pool.ntp.org)
I get my kit from Linitx.com, The kit is simple enough that I had already
setup 2 of the systems before I went on the training. I have no connection
with Linitx other than being a customer.
I went on one of the AP at home to start an upgrade last night and noticed
that it had run for 186 days without a reboot. I was pretty chuffed with
that. Wish the =C2=A3$%&* humax would last more than 4 days without a
reboo=
t!
The only reason it wasn't more than 186 days was a firmware update to check
on a change they'd made - Using the Ubiquiti network at home to test a
change that I was going to roll out across an industrial site. :) Dangerous
with risk to WAF if I'd screwed up!
All the best
Richard
