Re: [ukha_d] Audio round the house options?

Hello,

I am currently borrowing a Sonos PLAY:1 from work.

It is mostly pretty good but these are my negatives:
* Occasionally it seems to unpair with the bridge and can be a pain to
get it working again. Connecting directly to Ethernet improved things.
* You are locked into the Sonos world - you can't just stream using any
mobile app (like Airplay/Google Cast etc)
* The sound is very 'Bose' - artificial sounding bass - probably
because of the small speaker size.
* The low-latency network is very clever but I still think it is very
expensive for what it is.

I guess some of these are solved by using a Sonos CONNECT and your own
amp and speakers but I don't think I will be buying any Sonos myself.

I am currently using my own amplifier and speakers, connected to an
Airport Express. Not as fancy as Sonos but a hell of a lot cheaper. You
can also pickup old Airport Express (the slower 802.11b ones) cheaply on
eBay, which work perfectly well for audio - I actually have Wifi turned
off in mine.

Something else I am looking into is an amplifier board for Raspberry
Pi:

But not looking into what software I would run on it yet...

nick.
