Re: Fibre broadband presentation, and extending to router

I=B9m with Plusnet on an 80/20 FTTC service.

My modem is connected to a separate socket which is in turn connected to
th=
e
master via CAT5. This was installed by BT when I originally had ADSL; it
wa=
s
an engineer-install as it was before they introduced plug-in microfilters
and self-installs. So your CAT5 connection should be OK, though I=B9d be
wa=
ry
of the effects of any adapters. A direct sock-to-socket connection via a
single cable would be better.

I=B9m also using my own router; a Draytek Vigor 2900V, with the fibre modem
connected to the WAN 2 port.

So you=B9ll be OK, I=B9m sure.

Regards,
Steve

Subject: [ukha_d] Fibre broadband presentation, and extending to router

=20

I am so fed up with BT that I am looking to change.
Plusnet looks good with better prices for the "equivalent"
service from BT.
So I can either save money on ADSL, or get fibre for less than my current
ADSL price.=20

But how is "fibre" presented once in the house? I assume their
service is
FTTC with copper for the last bit to the house. This is for a residential
install with an existing NTE5.
Currently, I've connected a cat5 cable to the internal connections on the
back of the NTE5 faceplate, with the cat5 going (via a series of adaptors)
to my router in node 0.

Can I do the same with fibre?
Plusnet say fibre needs an openreach modem and then the router plugs into
that.=20
My current router can do both ADSL and has a separate rj45 wan2 port so I
think that will be ok.
I don't want to look at the openreach modem next to the master socket, how
do I extend the feed to it so it can sit next to my router?

Thought/comments welcome.

Thanks,
Tim.
