A good amount of food for thought - thanks Kevin.

I kind of wanted control from either Homekit or my Harmony remote (which
do=
es everything else in the living room) - I'm sure there's a way to do that
=
somehow! Will need to keep digging. Don't really want an overly complex
sol=
ution.

Shame there isn't a Philips Hue plug socket device - seems like an obvious
=
need.

I do have IF (IFTTT) app on my phone - have done some very basic
experiment=
ation. I don't think it can use a scene change or even a Hue lamp being
tur=
ned on as a trigger though? Need to research more...

Thanks,

Paul.

With SmartThings it seems to be an overriding marketing decision to launch
=
the product, even though it had these known problems. To launch in the UK
w=
hen they did was such a bad experience for any experienced user. However
i=
nterestingly there is very informed comment on the forum that overall this
=
was probably the right thing to do as the grief they are now enduring is
ac=
tually only being voiced by a niche of their customers from a volume
perspe=
ctive and invisible to their mass market.

The HC2 is still a long way off from working well too it seems with poor
su=
pport. My motion sensor LUX level still only works intermittently. The
inte=
rface and GUI looks nice but when you get down to it, it's still very
clunk=
y and isn't very useable, let alone by anyone else in the house!
Agreed - it's another product with potential but just under invested in
sup=
port and development by the manufacturer. The Vera Plus launches this
mont=
h too.

What I'm wondering currently is if there's a way to detect a Hue scene
bein=
g triggered (or even a hue lamp being triggered) and then turning on a
Z-Wa=
ve plug socket? The Hue plugin doesn't seem very capable at all
unfortunate=
ly.

I had assumed so, but from what you say obviously not. I don't have my
Hue=
's connected to Fibaro, they are currently on ST and OpenHAB. I'll give
it=
a try if I get a moment. Not sure if it's a poor plugin design or if it=
's some other aspect.

There is a patent held by Lutron that prohibits wireless lights updating
st=
ate in real time when operated locally - this maybe extends to control
from=
another application. An overly broad patent in my opinion as it seems su=
ch a fundamental requirement but I understand Lutron have been quite
vigoro=
us in enforcing it. I think that it fundamentally impacts Z-Wave and
ZigBe=
e functionality resulting in a need to poll devices for status. Maybe that
=
stops realtime updates from Hue back to HC2, and Comfort Z-Wave for
example=
can't update HC2 with real time zone status.

So, another possibility. You could possibly use IFTTT to do this - if you
h=
ave any controller with IFTTT capability ? IFTTT supports Hue but not
HC2=
directly You can use the IFTTT maker channel to trigger a HC2 scene but t=
hat requires you open your HC2 to the Internet which you might not wish to
=
do. Authenticated cloud access to HC2 is problematic.

https://ifttt.com/maker

Or.. you could enlist a Wemo switch (=A330ish) or Insight which use IP for
=
control. Wemo has a dependable IFTTT channel and so you could indirectly
li=
nk Hue and Wemo. Wemos used to be another really bad product but recent
fi=
rmware updates have made them pretty reliable again. Wemo is directly
sup=
ported by ST and OpenHAB but not by Fibaro (or Vera).

A search through IFTTT's supported channels might even pull up something
yo=
u already own that you could use.

I'm sure others will have a few suggestions too...
