Paul,
=20
These Z-Wave switches look nice. I don=E2=80=99t know anything about them
=
though!
=20
<http://www.vesternet.com/z-wave-mco-touch-panel-switch-two-load>
http://w=
ww.vesternet.com/z-wave-mco-touch-panel-switch-two-load
=20
Another thing to note=E2=80=A6.. The Z-Wave protocol should be universal
an=
d this is written in the specs, meaning that all Z-Wave products should
wor=
k together. However some features may not be supported with some Z-Wave
pr=
oducts. There is also a revision in the specs called Z-Wave Plus, the
spec=
s say it should be backward compatible but the Plus features may not be
sup=
ported with older Z-Wave products. I think one of the new Plus features
is=
a longer range. There is no word on if the HC2 supports Plus yet!.
=20
Oh one other negative for the HC2, due to the locked down nature it=E2=80=
=99s not possible to add templates for device features that are not
already=
included in the firmware of the OS. It has to be done by emailing Fibaro =
the technical specs of the product you want adding together with a
template=
of the device you included in your system and they say it will be added in=
a coming firmware update. At the moment this is a slow process due to the=
ir workload.
=20
This is a very good resource from Vesternet and shows what devices they
hav=
e tested with each controller/firmware. IT=E2=80=99S A MUST READ!

=20=20
Thanks Steve,
=20
I'm pretty excited about the HC2 and particularly the dimmer modules etc
th=
at they have. Seem to have the functionality I use regularly with my CBus
u=
nits but at a fraction of the cost! Obviously no LCD displays but should
be=
good with the right switches (still to research).=20
=20
I might take you up on having a look around your system when you have a mo
=
if that's still ok?
=20
Cheers,
Paul.

Yes I prefer the HC2 for two reasons.=20=20
=20
One it has a faster response time than the VeraLite. i.e. when multiple
com=
mands are sent at once, dim, dim etc. (However the VeraLite is a low spec
c=
ontroller and there are other Veras options also available). Dont forget
bo=
th Fibaro and Vera will interface with HomeVision via http requests I can
h=
elp you with this if you need it.
=20
The other reason is it has a much better user interface, both for setup
and=
what I can endpoint screens. iPad and iPhone, I dont have any Android but =
there is a Fibaro App available for this also.
=20
The negatives for Fibaro=20
1) The OS has been totally revamped around Christmas time and has been
r=
eleased as a beta, it still has many bugs. Fibaro are fixing them but
they=
are slow. When the HC2 is shipped it comes with the stable version but no=
t as feature rich as the beta upgrades. (Im not sure what features are
miss=
ing.) As we are on the cutting edge/early adopters a lot of us dont mind
wa=
iting for updates, tinkering and fixing stuff with workarounds.=20=20
=20
2) The Fibaro forums are useful but not as mature as the Micasaverde
(Ve=
ra) forums
=20
3) Even though the user interfaces are nice they are not customisable.
I=
believe you can use Roomie, NetIO or a simple webpage via the HTTP API if =
this is needed.
=20
4) No third party plug-ins allowed yet by Fibaro=20
=20
5) A problem for both the Fibaro and the Vera there are no I/Os on the
c=
ontrollers, they are wireless only units, hence good we have the HTTP API.
=
In the future I may look at using some itach devices. designed to connect
a=
lmost any electrical device to a network in a matter of minutes http://www=
.globalcache.com/products/itach/
=20
Good luck with you final choice, I would love to hear what you go for and
y=
our experiences.

Hi Paul,
=20
I cant help you with advice on Z-Wave Alarm systems. However, if you end
u=
p choosing the Fibaro Home Center 2 it has a built in plug-in for a Satel
A=
larm System. Im sure the Vera will have many more plug-in options for
alarm=
s.=20=20
=20
The Fibaro is sadly lacking in plug-ins, as its not currently open to
third=
party developers. Albeit its said to be coming in the future.=20

So as I'll be losing Comfort in the new house, what wire-free alarm
systems=
that have good Z Wave connectivity should I be looking at? Not interested =
in a monitored system but something that is reliable with battery powered
P=
IRs etc. main panel can be mains powered of course.=20
