Wake up light: z-wave or hue?

Having a bit of a dilemma: my wife expressed interest in one of those
wake up lights that comes on in the morning and simulates sunrise to
gradually wake you from sleep. They're all a bit rubbish though,
surely we can do it with proper HA.

1: Use a good zwave plugin dimmer like the POPP one with a decent
golfball LED lamp and hope it can deal with starting at some low
enough brightness not to wake you up when it turns on (10%?). Use my
existing vera controller with a scene to trigger it, but this way
requires some coding effort to allow some easy interface to set the
alarm time. Total cost around =E2=82=A460

2: Use a Phillips Hue light. Already has 'sunrise' scenes and perhaps
an easier interface to allow us to quickly set the alarm times via a
phone app. You can link Hue to vera too but end up with yet another
thing that needs power and unknowns if the range will be enough etc.
Total cost around =E2=82=A4170 for the starter kit although you get extra
lamps and it's colour.

Anyone here doing something similar for wakeup with a bedside light?

TIA Mark
