Thanks for all the comments so far.
I hadn't looked at the Lightwave stuff but it seems to require changing the
current faceplates, which will be a no-no...
X10 could work. I can't run wiring from the new switch location to the
existing switch and light rose, but might be able to get *some* sort of
mains power to the new switch...

I'm liking the relay option. Where I'm now struggling is getting something
to connect to the new switch at L1, L2 & COM which will sense a change
in
state of the switch (or perhaps just L1 & COM) and send a "one
shot"
wireless signal to some receiver near the rose which in turn will toggle
the new relay. Maybe an X10 powerflash would do? I need to read up more.
Something battery powered at the new switch would be ideal, however.
