I have automatic garage roller doors installed which operate from a remote
control. Recently I have been working on a project to use a Raspberry Pi to
remote control them. So I have some relay outputs, and that all works fine.
I also decided to install a beam detector, so that if the door is closing
and the beam is broken that the door will reverse.
To detect if the door is open or closed I planned to use magnetic reed
switches - one at the top and one at the bottom, nice and simple way to
know where the door is (I don't care where it is at if it is somewhere in
the middle
The problem: I have tried and tried, but I can't come up with a position
for the switches that works, its really tricky, far worse than I thought it
would be, it is hard to get them in a position where they are triggered by
the magnets.
Any other suggestions for door position sensing? I thought of microswitches
with a actuator arm, but again I'm not sure where they could be positioned.
Regards
Simon
