RE: Remote NAS via FTP

This is a windows to windows solution so not exactly to a nas but
free.

Subject: [ukha_d] Remote NAS via FTP

HI, I'm getting a bit frustrated trying to do what appears a relatively
simple operation - ie site a NAS at a mate's house and use it as an offsite
backup using FTP and filesync. I have hit a number of bumps in the road -
one is the date and time returned by the FTP server on the synology NAS
(and Drobo) differs from that in the filelist - so every remote file has to
be recopied to catch up on the correct date - this wouldn't be such an
issue if the speed was decent but I'm only getting a few hundred K upload
even though my upload speed is >5Megs and the download speed at the
remote site is 40Megs - anyone got any ideas as to why it would be so slow?

I am getting a bit fed up and am planning a potential PLAN B - get an old
fire safe, drill a hole in it for power and ethernet site it in my shed and
run cat5 to it. Should cover almost all eventualtites.

Cheers

Tim.
