Re: CCTV DVRs

Mark,

Ordered and arrived. I went for the 4 camera system (I currently only have
2 cameras) and a 1Tb disk, which should be fine for my domestic needs.

Initial installation was easy, just plug it into my existing cameras and
network port, a swap-in replacement for my broke Geovision system.

The old VGA monitor I had in the attic ("node 0") didn't support
the
resolution, but that was no matter, because I went to the laptop, found the
DHCP IP address and was able to do all the configuration remotely.

I had a bit of trouble getting my recording set up. I don't know what was
wrong, but I wanted no timed recording and all motion detection. I think I
hadn't got the motion sensitivity high enough, but I've got it working now.

So I now get an email on any motion, which was one of my favourite features
of Geovision. Port forwarding was a simple setup on the router, and I
installed the app on both iPad mini and my android phone, and they work
perfectly home or away. The iPad one is better simply because there is more
screen real estate.

Of course I have much more to play with, and more to configure/learn about,
so my opinions may shift a bit, but so far I am happy.

Thank you very much for the recommendation, all in it cost =C2=A3324,
which=
was
almost =C2=A3100 more than I intended, but I think I got value for money
ra=
ther
than simply something cheap. It is also quiet, and if cctv42 are to be
believed, the hard disk is meant for 24/7 use and should be robust too.

Now I just need to replace my cameras with the cctv42 ones.

Regards

Simon
