I'd be tempted to go down the OpenWRT route=85

Use a TPLink WR3020 (http://wiki.openwrt.org/toh/tp-link/tl-mr3020)
and
connect WiFi stick that can use an external antenna to the USB port (or
even something like
http://www.solwise.co.uk/wireless-usb-usbcatcher.htmlperhaps)

If they don't want to fiddle Solwise even have a USB repeater too -

but no idea how
good it is.

Other things to remember is to keep internal WiFi on a separate channel
from the site and probably turn the power down
