Thanks, the background on processor performance made interesting reading
:-=
)
When I tried handbrake on an 2nd gen i3 laptop (not sure which specific
processor) it was ~5x quicker than my pentium M so am coming round(!) to
the idea that an upgrade will be needed. Also spurred on by the lack of
security updates for XP after April(?) next year.

What does grate though is that the hardware, albeit older, is still working
fine and easily fast enough for most things that I do with it (reports
&
spreadsheets, email & browsing).
Linux with openoffice is probably the obvious solution after April to keep
it going but I need ActiveX for one specific bit of s/w, which means
(AFAIK) that I need a Windows OS.

I also have an XP based desktop and it's this that more than likely will
get replaced (looking i7, lots of ram, maybe ssd, etc.) so would use that
for encoding.

Is anyone else wondering what to do when XP is no longer supported or am I
in a minority with this, ahem, older hardware?

Cheers,
Tim.
