RE: Unifi wifi AP's

Hi Joseph,

Don't get hung up on range ... range is completely the wrong thing to be
looking for for reliability and stability.

What you *NEED* for a reliable WiFi network is numerous short range WiFi
APs
with a tightly controlled performance envelope and seamless handoff between
grouped APs (generally using a centralised AP controller to manage the
controlled handover of connections between APs) - then everything works as
it should. (Just think of it as a cell-phone setup but on a smaller scale.)

Greater range / sensitivity just means that you come into conflict with
more
wireless networks and have more wireless networks conflicting with you and
your devices hang on to a poorly performing connection for longer.

WiFi is so poorly understood when it is used in the real world that it is
almost useless!

Phil

I
have to say they're superb. Never has setting up an AP been so easy. The
management software is great, even keeping track of other AP's it's seen
and
which channels they're on, full logs of what devices have connected etc,
all
in a well designed web based interface.

on
the iPhone, iPad etc as I move from AP to AP with seamless connection. The
management software also logs when a device roams from one AP to another.

Sounding good.

Have you done any comparisons of the range to anything else?

Joseph
