BT phone line ringing problem

  • Subject: BT phone line ringing problem

Hi all,

Our phone line was re-connected by BT on Monday after some months being off
due to building work. Now, whenever the home phone rings it rings for one
long ring and then goes silent, although the caller still hears the
ring-ring, and the phone can still be answered.

I've tried a corded and cordless phone, directly into the test socket
behind the NTE5 faceplate and the results are the same. A BT line test says
the line is fine but something is clearly wrong. The cable to the house is
the same one as before the works, and broadband works fine. The line was
fine before it was disconnected and the phones were also being used up to a
week ago so I don't think they're both broken.

BT are coming back but not until monday, is there anything I can do in the
meantime, or any idea as to what the fault is?

Many thanks,
Tim.
