Re: Re: Node 0 - SSD issues

Disk alignment is to do with whether a single write from the operating
system spans two underlying blocks on the SSD, effectively up to doubling
the writes/wear on the drive (sorry, not very well explained). Search for
"ssd disk alignment windows 7" etc, e.g.
http://www.overclock.net/t/1226963/how-to-properly-re-align-your-ssd-hdd-partitions
In practice it means that the starting offsets for all partitions should be
a multiple of 1MB. If you did a fresh install of Win 7 straight only the
SSD I think you should be OK anyway - it's only if you clone it from a HDD
that I think you need to be careful.

That Western Digital "not suitable for 24/7" is just some new
marketing fluff they have come up with (possibly after realising the
negative effect of their firmware optimisations) - as I understand it these
new "red" disks of theirs are physically the same as the green
ones but with slightly different firmware. Interestingly the latest
Synology firmware automatically disables that timeout for these specific WD
disks (may also be true for other NASs). Arguably no SATA disks are
"designed" for 24/7 as their MTBF is shorter than enterprise
grade disks, but they are usually good enough for non-critical use.
