Thanks - I hadn't spotted that. Looking at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/S/PDIF
S/PDIF the only vaguely interesting non-audio data aears to be "Audio
source category (general, CD-DA, DVD, etc.)". I'm not sure why I
mentioned HDMI since it's not relevant to multi-room audio..!
Anyway, where people have amps hidden away what do you use for volume?
